In a strategic move to enhance flexibility for streaming customers, Fubo has introduced standalone subscription services for select premium content. Now, consumers can subscribe directly to live and on-demand offerings such as FanDuel Sports Network, NBA League Pass, and Paramount+ with Showtime without needing a base Fubo plan. This launch is part of Fubo’s larger “super aggregation strategy”, which aims to give users more choice and access to a variety of content within the Fubo ecosystem.
Standalone Subscription Offerings
While FanDuel Sports Network remains part of the Fubo Pro base plan and NBA League Pass and Paramount+ are still available as add-ons, users now have the option to purchase these services independently. Subscribers to any standalone service will also gain access to Fubo Free, a bundle of nearly 200 ad-supported streaming channels.
David Gandler, Fubo’s CEO, explained:
“Consumers want flexible streaming options that let them subscribe to only the content they want. Our vision to be a Super Aggregator gives users a seamless way to access the content they love at appropriate price points. With standalone live and SVOD premium subscriptions, we’re putting choice in the hands of our customers.”
Three Flexible Channel Plan Tiers
Fubo’s new approach offers three distinct channel tiers:
- Fubo Free: A free tier of FAST channels, available to former Fubo subscribers and standalone premium subscribers.
- Premium Subscription Services: Standalone subscriptions to live and SVOD services, accessible without a full Fubo plan.
- Virtual MVPD: Fubo’s signature vMVPD channel plans, including live sports, news, and entertainment with a robust VOD library.
Subscribers to the live linear services also receive unlimited cloud DVR and multi-screen streaming capabilities, enhancing the value of these flexible subscription options.
Expanding Content Options and Future Plans
Fubo’s “super aggregation strategy” includes exploring additional offerings, such as pay-per-view, transactional video on demand, and skinny bundles. This approach allows Fubo to cater to varying consumer preferences, offering a range of bundles from basic to comprehensive.
Fubo has also filed an antitrust lawsuit against Venu Sports, a joint venture involving Fox, ESPN, and Warner Bros. Discovery. Initially set to launch in fall 2024, Venu Sports is currently on hold following a preliminary injunction.
With the launch of standalone premium services, Fubo is setting a new standard for flexible streaming. As Fubo continues to evolve its platform with skinny to fat bundle options and standalone subscriptions, the service offers consumers a customizable experience tailored to their specific content interests—all within a single, unified platform.
