Dome Productions, a leading provider of mobile production units in Canada, has expanded its audio capabilities with the installation of Calrec Artemis consoles in its flagship OB trucks, Titan and Empire. Known for supporting major sports leagues like the NHL, NBA, and MLB, as well as government broadcasts, esports, and news coverage, this upgrade reinforces Dome’s commitment to delivering top-tier audio experiences across a wide range of live events.
The Calrec Artemis consoles, supplied by True North A.V., Calrec’s Canadian partner, are expected to elevate Dome’s reputation for innovative, high-quality production.
Advanced Audio Capabilities in Titan and Empire
Roberto da Conceicao Junior, Senior Technical Manager and project lead for Titan and Empire, highlighted the strategic choice behind integrating Artemis:
“We chose Calrec because it’s the market leader in North American live event audio. The Artemis is an exceptional console—compact, with flexible routing and customizable controls. Its seamless integration with Calrec’s Hydra2 network simplifies workflows for freelance crews and clients.”
The Artemis core features Bluefin 2 high-density signal processing, 64 multi-layer faders, and Stagebox I/O, all connected through Hydra2 and interfaced with Evertz NATX for conversion to AoIP. The trucks also employ a ST2110 IP core for efficient audio and video routing, ensuring robust, adaptable setups for productions of any size.
Recognition and Impact
Dome Productions’ commitment to excellence was recognized with the Neumann Project of the Year 2023 Americas Award. The trucks have demonstrated their prowess by hosting key sporting events:
– Titan handles Toronto Blue Jays home games and Toronto-based coverage for the Maple Leafs and Raptors.
– Empire hosted Vancouver Canucks games and NHL playoff coverage through to the Stanley Cup finals.
Both trucks boast Neumann speakers and Sennheiser microphones, reinforcing Dome’s reputation for superior audio delivery in live events.
Flexible, Future-Proof Production
Dome’s new setup with Artemis ensures flexibility and scalability, meeting the evolving needs of live sports and broadcast productions. With the Hydra2 network, Dome can easily add new I/O devices without major modifications, supporting both small-scale events and complex productions.
“Hydra2 allows us to grow and meet customer needs without disruptive overhauls,” noted Conceicao.
Partnership with Calrec Kypros Christodoulides, Product Specialist at True North A.V., emphasized the strategic alignment:
“Dome Productions has long understood the capabilities of Calrec consoles. With Artemis installed in Titan and Empire, the trucks are now equipped to meet the expectations of North America’s fast-paced sports broadcasting industry.”
“Dome Productions has been a cornerstone of the broadcasting industry, and we’re proud to partner with a company that shares our dedication to unmatched audio excellence.”
